A good hat needs no explanation. Knowing where the work went is still worth something.
An extra wash means it never arrives stiff, and eyelets punched into the crown let the heat out. On a bucket the brim falls all the way round, which makes the volume of the crown the whole question: too deep and it looks stifling, too shallow and the brim floats on its own. This one stops between the two.
The stitching that runs along the edge of the brim is not decoration but the frame that holds its shape — fold it and unfold it a dozen times and the curve is still there. The two tones were chosen for different halves of a summer day.
