A good hat needs no explanation. Knowing where the work went is still worth something.
The interlining was stripped back everywhere except inside the crown, which is the point where it stays light and still does not collapse when you take it off. Strip it out altogether and the cap flattens in a bag; leave it all in and it is too much to wear all day. That is why only the front panel keeps it.
The embroidery is a single fine white thread, so it reads at the same brightness on every one of the four colours — one thread makes the lettering thin, but it also leaves the colour of the cloth exactly as it is. This was made to be picked up without thinking and put down anywhere.
